Wind Chimes

Sermon Series

John 3:8

The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.

I want to be a wind chime. As the Spirit moves me and I bump up against others, I want people to hear and see the Spirit of God. I want God’s breath to be heard and felt in and through my life. I want people to hear God’s wind because it moves in me and impacts my life in a noisy yet beautiful way. Sit on your back porch, listen carefully for it, and you might be able to hear the wind. It will chime. It is a moving and living thing. It is a reminder that wind can change, and it can move from here to there. Like God’s presence that is alive and active in us, God so moves in our world.

In this next sermon series, Wind Chimes, we are going to look at how the Holy Spirit moved the early church and who they bumped up against. We will look at the role of the Holy Spirit and seek to understand who we are called to be as a church. Pentecost is the birthday of the church, a day of celebration. In this series, my hope is that you will celebrate with one another in worship, community, and joy.

Grace and Peace,

Rev. Michael P. Smith
